Riverside Drive won’t reopen for a year, but Gathering Place officials remind Tulsans it’ll be worth the wait



Rain and other weather-related factors affecting road construction and the building of A Gathering Place for Tulsa have pushed back the reopening of Riverside Drive until the late spring or summer of 2018, officials said Wednesday.

In July 2015, the city closed Riverside Drive from 21st to 41st streets in conjunction with the $400 million park, whose previous opening had been set to coincide with that of the improved road by the end of this year.

Now, those debuts have shifted to the 2018 timeline, with the exception of the Chapman Foundations Adventure Playground, which will open in January with scheduled visits from Tulsa-area elementary school children.
